Taking optical time-of-flight (TOF) as an example, the sensor emits laser or infrared light via a micro-emitter. The light reflects off the target surface and is received by a receiver. By precisely measuring the time interval between light emission and reception, the distance between the TOF sensor and the target can be calculated.
